"Lovely" Irish Undead Film

I have to say I am enjoying the Irish film industry and their treatment of horror/sci-fi. This film fits nicely into this mode. The film balances elements of seriousness, horror, comedy, and a particular sensibility that I can only assume is unique to the Irish culture. And it works nicely for me. As the government desires to have a new road put through a small village, the plans unearth an undead creature, leaving the town folk at its mercy. It's up to a small band of the construction crew to find out if they can stop the creature. Fun and engrossing film with just enough wit to keep it fun.

It definitely had a lot of potential...

As I sat down in 2021 to watch the 2020 horror comedy "Boys from County Hell", I must admit that I hadn't even heard about the movie. But I found the movie's cover to be interesting, the synopsis for the movie sounded like something worthwhile watching. So I sat down to watch the "Boys from County Hell" from writers Chris Baugh and Brendan Mullin. And I must admit that the movie was definitely off to a good first half. But then the movie sort of started to run low on fuel and staggered towards the midway point. The movie then settled into a slow trot, from which it never really recovered. Sure, "Boys from County Hell" is watchable, but it just wasn't an outstanding or particularly memorable horror comedy. There are far better and more enjoyable horror comedies out there. It was the events that took place in the movie that sort of stagnated and grew stale. As well as the character gallery, as it wasn't particularly impressive, and I never really took a liking to any of the characters in the storyline. Those things resulted in the movie going from being relatively interesting to settling into a mundane slump. "Boys from County Hell" is not a horror movie that is crammed with jump scares, gore or anything like that. It is a subtle horror movie that is laced with comedy elements. However, I can't really claim that director Chris Baugh managed to make me laugh with the events that took place throughout the course of this movie. I will say, though, that the vampiric creature itself was definitely nicely made. Just a shame that it didn't really have all that much time on the screen. All in all, "Boys from County Hell" was watchable, but it is hardly a memorable or outstanding horror comedy. Nor is it, I fear, a movie that you will watch more than once, as the storyline just doesn't have the contents to support more than just a single viewing. My rating of the 2020 movie "Boys from County Hell" lands on a less than mediocre four out of ten stars.

ævnt been there...

And so shall not thou ither. Its a little irish horror flick that i guarantee youll be squirting some adrenaline from your kidney glands from shock and awe, and i can possibly guarantee some satisfactorious dopamine release as well due to pretty harmless jolly good irish humour, the only thing i cant mend is the complete understandable dialect spoken over there, scotttish movies are usually cc'd but eirinn films aint and having used my ever so loud humming tinnitusious snailhoushairs to actually interpret what they say its just inunderstandable , but that is my problem, but good luck anyway. Its a small cast rural, young kids working in dads firm, digging up a field that holds some sinister secrets from the past, a skull is found, who it belongs to and what happens next i wont spoil, just turn up the volume and dance dance till you reel in the bait in the bush, cause there aint much trees left over there on the emerald island. But a fair try to scare the living daylights outta you while trying to stay on these roads while the cry wolf cries cause the sun always shines on tv, while the grumpy old man swallows this aha moment of celtic mysticism, there are nothing more to say than a recommend. So turn of the lights max the sound level and enjoy.
