Leprechaun 4 In Space: As intellectual as you'd expect

Whenever horror and space combine they are usually met with a critical response, from Dracula 3000 (2004) to Jason X (2001) and this was no exception. Warwick Davis's Leprechaun ventures into space to woo a princess in hopes of becoming a king but faces off against a military force set to scupper his plans. As you can imagine this is pretty dumb stuff but ultimately watchable. Warwick Davis seems to phone his performance in and certainly isn't on form here. Thankfully the rest of the cast carry the film especially the underrated Jessica Collins. More comical deaths, silly quips and dodgy sfx are in order in this 4th instalment. The Good: Jessica Collins The Bad: Warwick Davis isn't on form Looks pretty crappy Things I Learnt From This Movie: I can't see Guy Siner without thinking Lieutenant Hubert Gruber I'm very surprised George Lucas didn't sue When a person is turned into a mutant using scorpion dna they'll become a spider..........for some unexplained reason

What is this?

This is the worst film I've reviewed for Slasher Month. It's one of the dumbest movies I've seen in a long time. When hearing about the mere mention of the title, I was at least eager to find out how the leprechaun would even get into space. It turns out we never find out! The movie literally opens with him already in space with his space bride. I'd think that would be something important to mention. There's this one scene where it looks like a guy is trying to help the leprechaun but he's trying to trick him and it fails. Later, he does the same thing with another guy and it's the exact same thing! I'm just amazed at how stupid this movie can get. There's this one strange cyborg that's transformed into a giant spider. At the film's climax, the leprechaun turns into a giant. All of this really happened. I thought they'd at least show the leprechaun on other planets but instead he's just stranded on a single spaceship. Does this take place in the future or something? How does this fit in with the other movies? The leprechaun gets blown up twice and somehow reforms. He blows up again at the end but his hand is still alive so I guess he's still not quite dead. Oh, and a woman becomes topless for no reason whatsoever other than that it's her people's way of showing a death sentence. This film is just idiotic bit after idiotic bit and I could go on all day about how stupid everything is. It seems like they just took random pieces of paper with plot points written on them and shot them out of a cannon to collect them to make some kind of story. The only upside is that it is the first slasher movie I've seen where the villain uses a gun. Even then, he doesn't kill anyone with it. *

Best for Leprechauniacs only

Prior to watching this, the 4th film in the Leprechaun series, I had only seen the original & 5th movie. Perhaps it was the latter that put me off watching any more, boy - that was bad. Anyway, my son suggested getting part 4, it's set in space so it sounded cool. And it is. In a bad movie sort of way. If you dig trashy movies, or are a fan of Leprechaun, then it's a relatively fun watch. And let's not forget that it was made 6 years before Jason went to space in Jason X (though that is a MUCH better film).
