Interesting

Low budjet film, and interesing idea. A littlebit wooden acting, but I kind of liked this.

Well Crafted

Danny Phillips's No Turning back is a very well crafted smart film. A dissecting exploration into the debts of human relationships-family relationships-marital relationships revealing the struggle between ones own needs and the needs of those they love. Well Casted and clever the film finds a way to remain with you long after the final credits. -Oaxaca FilmFest

Unintentionally hilarious

It's difficult to know where to start with 'No Turning Back', the plot of the film is essentially about an avionics engineer who volunteers and is shortlisted to be part of a team to colonise Mars, much to the dismay of his wife and 2 children. The unlikely plot is just the start of the fil's problems, the actors all give incredibly poor performances, however this is hard to criticise too harshly as the script sounds like its main influences were Tommy Wiseau and TV infomercials. Comparisons with 'The Room' are apparent throughout, particularly with the inclusion of a weirdly unsettling and bizarre, one-scene subplot about the main character's long lost daughter which never returns to the plot. Similarly, later in the film, two of the main characters are separately 'diagnosed' with the same rare cancer, both of whom subsequently end up not having cancer after all. There are numerous other inexplicable moments in the film, for example, when the 14 year old daughter goes missing and eventually turns up drunk and throwing up outside a nightclub. During the subsequent car journey home the previously paraletic girl is somehow able to hold a completely coherent conversation. The characters often repeat themselves in an almost catchphrase like manner, for example, the son seems to qualify every statement with "my friend Kevin says" and the main character shuts down any conversation about him moving to Mars with the phrase "but I've only been shortlisted". It's also difficult not to laugh when the main character's mother melodramatically cries "but you're my only son!!" twice in about 15 seconds after learning her son may be moving to Mars. Additionally, there are several infomercial-esque accidents in the film, for example when one character manages to spill 3 bags of shopping whilst carrying them between the car and the kitchen, and also when the main character has a metal pipe fall directly on his head in a Mars dream sequence. In conclusion, don't watch this film expecting a drama, however you might want to give it a go if you're in the mood for a comedy.
